Animals are Amazing!

'Regal Ram’

pastel painting by Cindy Berceli

Rams stay focused to be aware of increasing opportunities.

When they find a good source of water, they can drink up to 20% of their body weight at one time.

Bighorn sheep have great eyesight that allows them to make sound judgments while jumping and keeping an eye on animals even a mile away. They have balance-aiding split hooves and rough hoof bottoms for gaining mountain footholds.

Some facts about rams are¹²:

• Rams are male sheep that typically weigh 262 to 280 lbs. (119 to 127 kg), though they can grow to over 300 lbs. (136 kg).
• Rams have massive horns that weigh more than all of the bones in their bodies. They use their horns to fight and dominate other rams.
• Rams have a unique feature that sets them apart from other animals: they have four-chambered stomachs that allow them to digest tough plant material.
• Rams are social animals that live in herds of up to 100 individuals. They have a keen sense of hearing that helps them detect predators.
